Porcelain And Composite Veneers In West Perth

Dental veneers are thin covers bonded to the front of teeth to change their shape, colour or small gaps. At Absolute Dental, we check your enamel, gums and bite first, and compare veneers with smaller options, because some veneers need enamel removed for good.

Is A Veneer The Right Fix?

Veneers change how a tooth looks. Before suggesting one, we look at what’s underneath.

  1. Your goal

“What would you like to change?”

Colour alone may respond to whitening. Small chips may suit bonding. Knowing your goal tells us which options to compare.

  2. Enamel and gums

    “Have you had gum problems?”

Veneers need healthy gums and enough sound enamel around them, so any problems there are dealt with first.

  3. Grinding

    “Do you clench or grind?”

Grinding can damage dental work, veneers included (healthdirect, teeth grinding). If you grind, a night splint may be part of the plan.

  4. Upkeep

“How will you look after them?”

Veneers need cleaning, checks and, eventually, replacement. We’ll explain the likely costs over time.

Porcelain, Composite Or Something Smaller?

Each option is compared on preparation, strength and repair, so you can weigh the trade-offs.

OptionPreparationStrength and repair
Porcelain veneersUsually some enamel removed, which is permanent.Strong and stain-resistant, but harder to repair if chipped.
Composite veneersOften little or no enamel removed.Quicker and easier to repair, but more prone to staining and wear.
Whitening or bondingNone, or very little.May meet a smaller goal with less change to the tooth (healthdirect, teeth whitening).
AlignersNone.Move teeth instead of covering them, which can close gaps without drilling.

How Veneers Are Planned.

Porcelain veneers usually take two or more visits. Composite can often be done in one.

  1. Share Your Goals

Tell us what you’d change. We’ll look at your teeth, gums and bite first.

  2. Compare And Plan

Review materials, preparation, limits and fees before choosing.

  3. Prepare And Bond

Veneers are bonded in place once preparation, shade and shape are agreed.

  4. Check And Maintain

Check the fit and how your teeth meet, then keep up cleaning and reviews.

What Veneers Change, And What They Don’t.

What They Can Change

  • The shape and length of front teeth
  • Colour that whitening can’t shift
  • Small gaps and uneven edges

What They Don’t Change

  • The health of the tooth underneath
  • Gum disease or a bad bite
  • The need for checks and eventual replacement
Removing enamel can’t be undone. We’ll explain which teeth would need preparing before you decide.

What Will It Cost?

That depends on what your assessment finds. You’ll see the plan and its fees before anything starts, including any later visits or upkeep it may need.

Frequently Asked Questions

Porcelain veneers usually need some enamel removed, and that change is permanent, so a veneer does change the tooth even when it is done well. Composite veneers often need little or none. Ask how much preparation your own teeth would need before you decide, and we’ll tell you before anything starts.

How much depends on the tooth, its shape and colour, how thick the veneer needs to be and how big a change you want. Enamel doesn’t grow back, so we compare smaller options first: whitening may meet a colour goal (healthdirect, teeth whitening), bonding can cover small chips, and aligners can close some gaps without drilling.

Other things to ask about are sensitivity, chipping, a veneer coming loose and gum changes at the edge. Grinding can damage dental work, veneers included (healthdirect, teeth grinding), so a night splint may be part of the plan. Veneers need cleaning, checks and, eventually, repair or replacement. You’ll have a written quote and the likely future costs before you decide.
