HBF
We take part in HBF Members’ Plus. Here’s how your extras cover could apply to a visit.
HICAPS · Your card, then your claim
We send eligible health fund claims from reception, and you leave knowing your gap.

Chasing paperwork after an appointment is a nuisance. When you’re with a participating fund, reception can send your eligible claim as soon as you’ve been seen, whether you came for a check-up or to have an old filling replaced. Have your membership details ready, and say which fund you use.
What To Check FirstWhat To Expect At Your VisitThe claim is made during your visit. Your insurer, not us, decides how much benefit applies to the services you had.
Participating health funds can receive your claim electronically once treatment ends.
When the fund replies, we tell you the benefit applied and what you still owe.
Tell reception which fund you use. Before treatment, ask your insurer what your cover and rebate should be.
Your dentist examines you and talks through suitable care and what it costs.
Reception needs your health fund card, in physical form or as a supported digital card, to prepare the claim.
The claim goes out with the item numbers for the services you actually received.
When your fund accepts the claim, its benefit comes off the bill and you pay what’s left. If it can’t be claimed on the spot, ask for an itemised receipt and claim directly.
HICAPS is the electronic link between this practice and participating health funds. It transmits the claim, and your insurer decides the benefit your policy allows.
Visit HICAPSHICAPS only transmits claims, and it isn’t insurance. Look at your fund, your policy and the care proposed before you count on a rebate.
No. HICAPS sends an eligible claim to your health fund; the fund decides the benefit, and you pay the difference between that benefit and the practice fee. A successful electronic claim does not mean the whole appointment is covered. Before treatment, ask for an itemised estimate and check the items with your insurer. Ask about waiting periods, remaining annual limits, any service limits and the practitioner providing care. If the estimate contains several services, ask about each one rather than assume a benefit for the whole visit. Bring your member card and confirm the patient details used for the claim. At reception, check the approved benefit and the remaining amount before settling the account. If the benefit differs from what you expected, ask your fund to explain its assessment and ask the practice to clarify the treatment items. HICAPS is the claiming connection, not the insurer or a promise of a no-gap visit.
